• Answer and direct telephone calls in a polite and informative manner.
• Access company directories to route calls to the appropriate person or department
• Maintain a friendly and helpful demeanor when interacting with callers.
• Use a computerized switchboard system to route calls.
• Take and relay messages.
• Announce when visitors arrive.
• Relay important information.
• Handle emergency calls.
• Assist customers in making telephone calls.
• Research and advise on rates.
• Assist callers with other questions.
• Help callers make long-distance or local calls.
• Provide customers with area codes, telephone numbers, and other information.
• Interrupt a busy line if there is an emergency.
• Monitor an automated system in which callers place collect calls.
• Work collaboratively with other switchboard operators and professionals to ensure the best possible outcomes for their missions.
• Provide a memorable customer experience and awesome customer service.
• Participate in training programs to maintain and improve switchboard operator skills.
• Ensure adherence to switchboard operator regulations and promote quality improvement initiatives.
• Provide support to other staff members as needed.
• A degree in Business Administration or High school diploma or certificate in Excellent phone skills can help. you develop the communication and organizational skills necessary to work as a switchboard operator.
• A switchboard operator should have strong knowledge of switchboard operator principles, practices, and regulations, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, strong organizational and time management skills, attention to detail and accuracy, and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
• The ideal candidate should have proven experience as a switchboard operator or 1-3 years of experience in a call center environment.
• Basic computer proficiency.
• Experience in a customer service role (preferred).
• Additionally, individuals with experience administrative support or related jobs may be preferred.
